Thank you for your interest in University of Nebraska SIFE Sales. If you have any questions about any of our auctions or services, please do not hesitate to call us 402-472-7290.
SIFE Sales was started in 2001 under the name “UNL Surplus Online Sales.” The program was started as a way to provide goods to the general public that are no longer useful to the University. Rather than gather dust in warehouses, valuable equipment can be repurposed to public buyers. This helps University departments recover significant revenue.
In 2009, UNL Surplus began a transition to SIFE Sales. Students in Free Enterprise, or S.I.F.E. for short, is a student organization that applies students’ classroom experiences to develop and implement educational outreach programs. Student workers are given the opportunity to apply the principles of market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills, environmental sustainability and business ethics in the workplace.
SIFE Sales works closely with each department in order to ensure the most efficient sale of their items. Goods are first posted on our NU Auction site, which offers goods strictly to other University related members. If the item is unsuccessful within NU Auction, the item is moved to eBay in order to capture a broader buyer audience.
If the item does not sell successfully on either NU Auction or eBay, alternative methods for removal, approved by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents (Policy RP-6.2.2), are as follows:
1. Return to Inventory Department 2. Transfer/Sale/Recycle to University Departments or State Agencies 3. Sale to the General Public 4. Scrap or Salvage
